Palm May Have Plans To Cap Pre Supply To Under 400,000 Units

Recently posted on the Bloomberg market blog is an apparent rumor that Palm will intentionally cap the supply numbers of the Pre once it goes on sale. It is surmised that this artificial scarcity will help Palm with the hype surrounding the phone, as many have already been quick to compare the million unit sellout of the iPhone. Hugo Miller of the Bloomberg market blog writes

“…may stockpile fewer than 400,000 Pre models when the touch-screen device goes on sale this year, making the phone scarce to enhance its allure to consumers, analysts said.”

Not that we haven’t seen artificial scarcity work (such as with the Nintendo Wii), but with the Iphone 3.0 launch lingering right around the corner, many would think that this idea is going to be a pretty terrible one.
